Virtual I/O Completes the Cloud
Cloud computing demands flexible resources. To achieve the promise of the private cloud, networks and storage must be available to servers on demand.
Xsigo virtual I/O delivers the flexibility you need to connect any resources to any servers -- on live devices.
And you never change cards or cables again.
Any-to-any connectivity
Xsigo virtual I/O lets you connect from any server to any network or storage using standard 1G Ethernet, 10G Ethernet, and Fibre Channel connections. But with Xsigo, connections are established with virtual NICs and HBAs that can be managed in software. Just two cables from each server let you configure up to 64 redundant connections per server.
Isolated connections
Xsigo lets you maintain the isolated connections needed for physically separate networks. When a virtual NIC or HBA is created, it is pinned to a specific port on the I/O Director. Data from that NIC or HBA is not accessible on any other port. It's just like having a dedicated cable, except it's software-defined.
Quality of service controls ensure application performance
Predictable application performance becomes achievable with Xsigo's quality of service controls that let you guarantee bandwidth (both Ethernet and FC) to specific virtual machines. So even in shared resource environments, you can achieve the same performance assurance that you would achieve with traditional I/O.
High bandwidth boosts server utilization
Each server can access up to 80Gb of bandwidth, putting an end to I/O bottlenecks that can sap application performance.
Putting the cloud to work
Xsigo combines the isolation and predictable performance benefits of traditional I/O with the flexibilty than only software-control can deliver. To learn more, read our blog post series on building private clouds.
